Essential Information for Visitors

Group Visits

If you are planning a school visit or on leading a pilgrimage to the Shrine please contact Fr Damian Humphries, OSB, in the first instance to check availability and to make a booking. See ‘Contact Us’ on the website for further details.

School groups and group pilgrimages are required to undertake their own risk assessments prior to your visit. Due to the great diversity of groups using the Shrine generic risk assessments are currently unavailable.

Individual Pilgrims

The Shrine is always open for private prayer and reflection. Individual pilgrims are not required to make a booking in advance.

Your Safety

Located on a hilltop, access to the Shrine is not easy. The path up to it from Ruebury Lane is, in places, uneven and quite steep. The main hazards are vehicles, especially farm vehicles, uneven ground, steps and some sheer drops. Please help us to look after you by wearing sturdy shoes, taking special care when walking up to the Shrine and supervising children at all times.

Visitors with Disabilities

Pilgrims and visitors with disabilities are requested to contact Fr Damian so that alternative arrangements can be made to access the Shrine. At the Shrine there is level access to most of the buildings and disabled toilet facilities.

Vehicle Access

Vehicle access to the Shrine is restricted. Please park in Osmotherley village and walk up to the Shrine.

Dogs

Please keep dogs on a lead at all times and clean up after them.
