The Lady Chapel.

Welcome.

All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Mt 25:35). Proper honour must be shown to all, especially to those who share our faith (Gal 6:10) and to pilgrims.

[Rule of St Benedict 53:1f]

Welcome!

The Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Grace, known locally as the Lady Chapel, is the Diocesan Shrine for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough.

Located on a hill above the ruins of Mount Grace Priory and the picturesque village of Osmotherley, it lies within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The Lady Chapel site is close to the route of the Cleveland Way and affords panoramic views across the Vale of York towards the Yorkshire Dales and beyond to the Pennines.

Founded in the 14th century by Carthusian monks, it has been a place of pilgrimage ever since. Generations of pilgrims have climbed the hill to visit this haven of peace in the midst of a busy world.

Today pilgrims to the Shrine are cared for by Benedictine monks from the nearby Monastery of Our Lady of Mount Grace, a dependent monastery of Ampleforth Abbey near York.

A warm welcome is extended to all. The tranquility, beauty and history of the Shrine provide an inspirational setting for those seeking the Lord.
